To help fix us? #MFRWhooks

Hearts and trust were never meant to be broken and Kalista wants to see BJ suffer; but she can’t deny that the attraction and love is still there. Maybe giving him another chance wouldn’t be so bad, if she didn’t have someone else.

From the moment BJ met Kalista, he knew she was the one for him, but too much alcohol and a bad decision left him on the outside looking in. Now, he’ll do anything to make up for the pain he’s caused her. All he needs is a chance to prove he’s worthy of her trust and love again.

And if that means challenging her current suitor...then let the best man win.

BJ noted the flicker of annoyance in Kalista’s eyes before her lips drooped downward. Interesting. He wasn’t sure if she was upset about Janice’s suggestion or just ready for this to be over.

“BJ?”

He held up a hand. “I think I can take it from here. If I need anything else, I’ll call.”

After a moment’s hesitation, Janice nodded. “Very well. I’ll be in my office.” She closed the door behind her.

“Are you sleeping with her?” Kalista pounced as soon as the other woman left.

“No.” BJ held her gaze, hoping she’d see the truth in his eyes. His entire focus was on proving he could be trusted again. Despite his total lapse in judgment, Kalista had to know she was the only woman he wanted.

“Why do I even bother?” She spun on her heel.

He grabbed her by the arm and hauled her close.

“Hey!”

He dropped his face to within mere inches from hers. “Because you still love me. Don’t bother denying it, Kalista. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t try so hard to make my life miserable. There is something you need to understand about this situation. We will always be in each other’s lives because of our daughter. I want to be civil. I don’t want to fight.

“I’m not even asking for your forgiveness, because you’re not ready to give it and I don’t think I deserve it. But we do need to come to some sort of agreement right here and now. We can either rebuild what we had or we can work through a mediator regarding Sydney.”

A flare of emotion he couldn’t quite decipher flickered in her soft chocolate depths. He released her and put space between them. “I don’t want to shut you out by using lawyers, but so help me I will.”

She had to understand how much this entire situation pained him. He had to do something to not only protect his assists, but if they couldn’t work things out, his heart as well.

“You think threatening me is the best way to get what you want? To help fix us?” She scoffed. “You are such a hypocrite.”

“No, I don’t, but like you, I don’t want to hurt anymore either. Seeing you, watching you frown, not being in the same house with you, not having you in my bed, hurts.  Knowing I’ve made you cry breaks my heart. I have no one to blame but myself.” He searched her face, noting the fine sheen of tears she quickly blinked away. “Tell me what you want from me, Kali. I thought time would help, but…” He blew out a breath and waited.

Silence stretched between them. Despite his words to her, BJ would wait forever for her answer, if that’s what it took. He didn’t like the thought of never seeing Kalista again, but he had to pick up the pieces of his heart as well and bear the burden of having broken hers.

Penelope had enough. She extended her cane and walked through the half door separating the case from the main floor. She followed the sounds of the man’s progress. “Allow me to escort you from the premises.”
The man gasped. “You’re blind? Oh, Christ on crutches. He married a blind woman.” He chuckled before it turned into a loud, boisterous laugh. “Too rich.”
Who is this fool? Penelope wondered. And how does he know Avery?
“Penelope?” a younger male voice queried.
“Gage.” She tried not to let the relief in her voice show. “Could you escort this gentleman from the premises and make sure he doesn’t come back?”
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” the man cautioned.
“You heard the lady.” Gage had steel in his voice. “Please leave before we call the cops. They usually stop in about this time.”
“Very well,” the man said. “You’ve made your choice. Tell Avery I was here. When he comes back.” The chime on the door jingled. “If he comes back,” he said, as laughter mingled with the chimes.

In Love with ‘Seducing His Wife’ by Lynn Chantale #MFRWhooks

Review

"I absolutely loved this book, I have a lot of books and have read a lot and every so often I take a long break after reading one before I read another but this just made me think why do I ever stop reading for a long period of time because when I do I miss out on romantic novels like this one I don't intend on going long with out reading again especially if it involve the characters from this book especially Matt he is sooooo romantic and for me it was the perfect love story for husband and wife!

I'm very happy it didn't fit the baby daddy baby momma statistics like other books it was about a successful Africa American couple who was married hit a bump in the road but let their love conquer it and I loved it especially being married it gives me hope! 🙂

Buy it and read it!!!"

Sheridan laid her needlepoint on her lap and picked up the phone on the second ring. “Hello?”

“Did I wake you?” The rich timbre of Matthew’s baritone voice sent tingles down her spine.

She wiggled her toes in excitement. He actually called. “No. I couldn’t sleep.”

“You have a moment?”

“Yeah.” She picked up her needlepoint again, cradling the phone between her shoulder and ear.

“I’m working on a presentation, and I haven’t found my attention-getter.”

“What’s it about?”

“Employee turnover.”

“Start with the amount of money a company loses each time they have to train someone who doesn’t stay for more than ninety days.”

He chuckled. “That’s not really why I called.”

“I know. You’ve had your presentation done for weeks, but I’m glad you called, anyway.”

“Really?”

She swallowed hard. She hadn’t meant to admit she was glad to hear from him, but the words had already been said, and she wasn’t prepared to lie to him. “Yes.” She cleared her throat. “I’ve made my decision.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll do what you ask on one condition.”

“I’m listening.”

“Don’t ever ask me why I left.”

He remained silent for so long she pulled the phone from her ear and checked the display screen to make sure he hadn’t disconnected the call.

“But…” He fell silent again. “Fine. I’ll agree if you share the same bed with me. We’re not doing separate rooms and all that crap.”

She almost laughed. “What is this, quid pro quo?”

“I get what I want, and you get what you want. What’s the harm in that?”

At the moment, she couldn’t see any harm. All that mattered was he not ask her again why she left. “None, I guess. What time?”

“Does tomorrow afternoon work for you?”

“All right.”

“I’ll drop the keys off at the store before I go to work. What time will you be there?”

“Any time after six. I have inventory,” she responded.

“So early? And here I am keeping you awake. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.” She would’ve been up anyway, and she enjoyed talking to him, despite everything. “I’ll see you in the morning. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight. Oh, and Sheridan?”

“Yes?”

“Thanks.”

The line went dead. Sheridan slowly returned the phone to the cradle and turned the ringer off. The soft smile she wore moments ago faded. She was going back home. She clasped a hand over her pounding heart. What had she agreed to? Panic seized her and shook her hard. She and Matthew would be in the same bed. Had she lost her mind? She breathed deep.

The situation wasn’t permanent. She was merely helping Carolyn so she could get Sean back as quickly as possible. The thought steadied her. And speaking of Carolyn…
