VIP's Revenge (VIBE a Steamy Romance Book 6) by [Lynn Chantale]

Blind does not mean helpless.

Friends Penelope and Amelia have faced challenges their entire lives, but they didn't expect being hunted by a maniac hellbent on ridding the world of successful blind people to be one of them.

The way Mr. VIP sees it, he's waited long enough to seek revenge on those who have wronged him. After breaking out of jail, he hopes to join forces with other like-minded criminals to carry out his plan. But can there truly be honor among killers?

When both Penelope and Amelia's sighted husbands are kidnapped, the women know they are going to have to face off against Mr. VIP and his band of villains. But they refuse to be afraid. They are not easy targets and will not go down without a fight.

Excerpt

Mr. VIP pushed his glasses more firmly on his nose and surveyed the two unconscious men on the floor of the makeshift prison. Th e shapes were blurred, so Mr. VIP stepped closer to the bars. His vision improved and he could see the men more clearly. One had shoulder-length sandy brown hair, with half of the strands obscuring the man’s face. The other man, black and bald, was sprawled on his back, with stained, dried blood on the collar of his shirt.

These two men, Joshua Hastings and Avery Cheathams, respectively, caused him serious trouble, trouble which had cost him his opportunity to destroy two of the most influential blind women in the community. Perhaps without these two men mucking up his plans, Mr. VIP could finally get rid of the baker and the lawyer.

“If we kill them now, we don’t need to worry about someone guarding them,” a snide, masculine voice said.

Mr. VIP barely spared the man a glance. “Isn’t he,” VIP indicated the sandy-haired man, “the reason why you’re in jail?”

“Well, yes.”

The only way her family had agreed to her running the business was to have an assistant. The fact she could manage every aspect of the bakery without sight was beyond her parents’ comfort level. It didn’t matter she’d spent most of her life in the kitchen before she finally lost her sight at 15; all that mattered was proving to her parents and herself she could maintain the profitability of their legacy. Hiring Avery was part of the compromise—and the best decision of her life. Somehow, with his self-assuredness and open mind, he made her days and nights normal.

But it wasn’t a normal day at the bakery because Avery wasn’t there. Penelope paused as emotion clogged her throat. She breathed deep to keep her emotions in check.
Where could he be? Is he lying in a ditch somewhere, dead or dying?

Her only clues are dancing skills, a great pair of lips, and a sensual voice that haunts her dreams and every waking fantasy. All that pales when her assistant, Avery, inspires those same lustful thoughts.

Those lips curved into a siren’s smile and conjured steamy weekends in bed. He shoved the coffee in Miles’ general direction and ignored his friend’s chuckle.

“May I help you?”

Decadent perfection tilted her head to the side and the tantalizing silkiness of her hair cascaded over a bare shoulder. When he met her eyes, a brownish-green, he nearly stopped breathing. Her! Only one woman he knew had hazel eyes. Surely the temptress standing before him wasn’t his very own masseuse? God, he didn’t even recognize her, all dressed up and with places to go. He drifted his gaze from head to toe. Damn, baby girl should leave her work smock at home. And now he couldn’t remember her name.

“I’m sorry I know you’re busy, but we’re having a little trouble finding our bartender.” Her sultry voice reminded him of satin sheets and candlelight. If she wanted to haunt his fantasies, then he would definitely make them a reality. What did he have to do to get her in bed?

“I’m the bartender.”

She arched a perfectly shaped brow. “For the bachelorette party?” She glanced around. “You seem pretty busy right here.”

He grinned. “I’ll get the first round started and then I’ll be at your beck and call. I’m Street, by the way.”

She lowered her lashes before meeting his gaze. “I know, although I always preferred Rue. Have you been avoiding me?”

Excerpt Chapter One

“You look quite amazing this evening,” sin and smoke purred near her left shoulder.

She pivoted in that direction, not quite catching the voice. “Thank you.”

Warm fingers trailed down her bare arm, gripping her hand. A sizzle struck through every nerve of her body. It wasn’t just his touch but also his nearness. She was used to people’s closeness, but his nearness was unnerving. Almost possessive. Each time she exhaled, her breasts touched his jacket.

“Would you care to dance?”

He was so close, his lips grazed the delicate shell of her ear, sending tingles down her spine and straight to her nipples.

A smile creased her lips. “I’m sorry. Do I know you?” she asked, not recognizing the speaker.

“In time, you will.”

Penelope tilted her head. The dulcet tones were scintillating, but between his low volume and the loud background noise of the room, she still couldn’t identify him. “I’m blind. Your voice sounds familiar, but I can’t quite place it.”

“I know. It’s all good. I’ve been admiring you from across the room, and I noticed your date seems to have deserted you for the moment.”

She bit her lip, not quite sure how to process this information. “He found one of his buddies to discuss business.”

“His loss. If I had such a beautiful woman as my date, I wouldn’t let you out of my sight for anything.”

Pleasure stole through her at the compliment. “Thank you.”

“Would you like to dance?”

“I’d love to.”

He tucked her hand through the crook of his arm, and they moved forward. “Your dress is stunning.”

Heat flushed her cheeks, delighted that her mystery man had actually noticed, while her date had not. Though her mother had described it to her in great detail over the phone, Penelope could only imagine the sequins and rhinestones dripping from the halter-style evening gown. Sam hadn’t bothered to give her a compliment. If anything, he’d said her lipstick was smeared.
